Orlando
Orlando also known as The City
Beautiful, is famous for some of the most spectacular theme parks, in
first place the world-famous Walt Disney World Resort, Universal
Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando which attract millions of
domestic and foreign tourists each year. Orlando's theme parks are an
absolute paradise for children as well as adults.
The world's largest and most famous
theme park, the Walt Disney World Resort was started by Walt
Disney himself in the 1960's. He died before the completion of the
Magic Kingdom in 1971 but his vision was even expanded over the
following decades. Today, the park consists of four theme parks, two
water parks, themed on-site hotel and a large number of other
attractions offering an unique entertainment to both children and
their parents. However, do not search for the Walt Disney World
Resort in Orlando because the park is actually located on the
outskirts of the city in the towns of Lake Buena Vista and Kissimmee
about 21 miles (34 kilometers) southwest of Orlando.
The Walt Disney World Resort is
definitely the top attraction but the other two Orlando's theme parks are
not any less spectacular. The Universal Orlando Resort located close
to the International Drive southwest of downtown offers an ultimate
fun and unforgettable experience for the entire family. SeaWorld
Orlando is a 200 acres marine-life based zoological park located
between the Walt Disney World Resort and downtown Orlando. In
addition to an interactive animal exhibits and live shows, SeaWorld
Orlando also features fun rides and a number of other attractions
which should not be missed if visiting Orlando.
Orlando offers much more than world-class amusement parks. The city is home to numerous art
galleries, museums and historical sites which are worth visiting as well. You
will not regret if taking a walking tour in the downtown historic
district encompassing eight blocks of approximately 60 historic
buildings surrounded by modern skyscrapers. These buildings were
built between the 1880's and 1940's and reveal the city's dynamic history as
well as evolution of Orlando's architecture. You will be able to
admire the Queen Anne, Twentieth Century Commercial Style, Art Deco,
Mediterranean Revival and Art Moderne styles on the tour route of
approximately 2,5 miles (4 kilometers). Other attractions that make
Orlando a perfect holiday destination include the Gatorland known as
the “Alligator Capital of the World”, Ripley's Believe It or
Not!, Harry P. Leu Gardens, Orlando Science Center and Arboretum of
the University of Central Florida. The city truly offers something
for everyone and you can be sure that you will a great time if
visiting Orlando with your kids or on your own.
Orlando offers lots to see and do but
you should not miss the opportunity to visit the Kennedy Space Center
Visitor Complex which is about an hour's drive from Orlando. There
you will see the NASA launch pads and giant rockets, experience how
shuttle launch feels like, be able to touch a slice of Moon rock,
meet with a real astronaut and perhaps even view a shuttle launch.
